Our popular and successful primary school for pupils aged 4 – 10 is situated in the village of Shepley and is a member of the highly popular and very successful three-tier Shelley Pyramid of schools within Kirklees.

We aim to create a positive learning environment where our children feel included and valued, happy and secure, where they experience and develop high self-esteem and confidence in their own abilities.

I am sure as you walk around Shepley First you will see why we are really proud of our children, staff and our school.

Dear Parents

Well, we could not have a bigger contrast weather wise to this time last year!  This time last year we were in the middle of a heatwave and enjoying some very warm weather and sunshine.  Thank you for sending your children in waterproof jackets to school. It means we can still go outside and the    children can have the fresh air they need even when it isn’t the best of weather.

There have been some great experiences for the children recently.  Our swimming teams, Year 4 and 5 boys, girls and mixed teams, enjoyed the pyramid gala at Huddersfield Sports Centre and came a very impressive second in all areas: the boys team, the girls team and overall!  We lost the overall competition to Highburton by 1 point, as we did last year!  All the children gave everything they had to the races and we are so proud of them!

Year 3 had a great day at Chester Zoo this week, there is so much to see and do there and in true Shepley spirit the rain definitely didn’t spoil their enjoyment and enthusiasm.  Year 4 had a brilliant day at Magna, they had some really interesting workshops and saw some exciting displays and exhibitions.  Year 4 also had two local engineers work with them for half a day.  They consolidated their understanding of electrical circuits through play dough and had fun applying what they had learnt.

Year 5 went to Huddersfield University this week, they had a tour of the University and took part in various activities throughout the day.  They enjoyed getting the train into Huddersfield just as much as the University!

12 children from Year 5 are heading off to Gearstones near Ribblehead today with myself, Mrs Adams and Mrs Mckinnell. Weather depending the children will be canoeing, climbing, abseiling and caving as well a climbing Pen-y-Ghent.  It is the second year we have run this expedition, the children learn and achieve so much through these activities and enjoy some fantastic surroundings  and scenery.

Thank you for your generosity with our Forget Me Not fundraiser, it is very much appreciated.

A representative from the charity came and presented the children with a huge cheque in  appreciation of the money raised.
